Novus FieldChart Lite - Free DataLogging Software
Fieldchart Lite is available to download for free from Novus Automation. This lightweight software will turn almost any USB or serial enabled Novus product into a datalogger when connected to a PC or laptop. Allowing historical logs, visual monitoring, reporting and data publishing.
The software itself requires a basic initial configuration to create the monitoring file (.mon). This holds all of the network information and the registers to be logged. The great thing about FieldChart is that you don't need to look up all of the registers and enter their numbers from a table. Once the device is set the common registers are available from a dropdown menu.
You can also log more than one device, so if you have a multi node serial network any suitable Novus device can be added by simply entering it's address number.
The second element of FieldChart is the historic logging (.hso). This file is stored on the local hard drive and contains all of the time and data stamped logs. Provided the connection is made and FieldChart is running the logging is continuous.
In summary FieldChart Lite is an excellent free tool to validate or monitor your process and it supports the majority of Novus temperature/process controllers and data logging devices. A simple connection can be made directly via the device USB port, this is acceptable for verification and some initial testing. For stable continuous monitoring we recommend a Serial to USB adaptor such as the USB-i485 or Ethernet where possible.
