TL400 is a non intrusive level and volume sensor ideal for detecting liquids, grains, fluids and bulk solids in static and moving applications. It may be used for level measuring of tanks, reservoirs, wells, perforations, rivers and other compartments.
With a harmless pulsed laser beam it performs fifty measurements per second while an advanced algorithm calculates not only the exact level but also converts it to volume in litres or other desired units.

Novus TL400-I Level Sensor FAQs

Q. Can this sensor detect water?

A. Yes the sensor can reliably detect water.

Q. What is the viewing angle and how can this assist you?

A. The viewing angle can be adjusted via software between 15-27 degrees. A narrow angle of 15 degrees can help to avoid obstacles. A wide angle can be used to get a better average measurement of a wide surface area. 

Q. How should the sensor be mounted?

A. It is important the sensor is mounted horizontally i.e. completely level. Try to avoid reflections from different light sources. Mount away from physical obstacles for example not too close to the tank wall or any other obstacles

Q. Can the sensitivity be adjusted to avoid rapid fluctuations?

A. The Filter parameter can be adjusted to dampen or debounce the measurement. A recommended initial filter value of 10 will help to give a stable signal.

Q. Does the sensor failsafe or provide any error signal? 

A. You can set the sensor to provide a low or high level 4-20mA output in the event of error. 

Q. Can the sensor cable be extended?

A. The cable can be extended with a female 4 pin M12 cable. This type of sensor cable is readily available 

When using a standard M12 4 pin sensor cable to extend the cabling the final wire colours for termination are typically as follows. If in doubt please confirm with a multimeter:

Brown = +24V Supply In

Blue = 0V Supply In

White = mA Out +

Black = mA Out -
